Notes
One of the series of works done about the approach of the end of the millennium. The figure is looking back over this century wearing an African mask like one that would have inspired Picasso and the first cubist paintings - the beginnings of modernism. The draping over the shoulder not only refers to drapery as used in classical figures but is the curtains to a stage where they are drawn to reveal the big screen. This is the first century we have been able to see the unfolding of visual events from our living rooms; thus you can instantly be confronted with famines, wars and volcanoes erupting.
