Following a period of unprecedented public interest, ELVIS IN GEYSERLAND opens a four-month season on December 16, 1994.

Seventeen years after his death, the story of the poor boy from the small Mississippi town of Tupelo continues to exert a powerful influence; the effect he has had on popular culture reaches deep into the lives of New Zealanders. In Rotorua, loyal fans keep the faith. Some have made pilgrimages to Gracelands, the Presley home in Memphis.

Thirty contemporary New Zealand artist who identify with popular culture have been invited to contribute a work.

Emerging from the war years, New Zealand in the 1950s felt the impact of the Presley phenomenon and the teenage revolution.
