Text
Maquettes and medium-sized bronzes sit with large and tiny segmented painted works by Palmerston North couple Paul and Fran Dibble at the Dobson Bashford Gallery. Sculptor Paul Dibble is showing more works about the Kiwi psyche and circumstances, including a moving statement about the Crop and Food Research scientists killed in a small-plane crash in 2003. There are also elongated, Giacometti-like groups of figures in motion or conversation. Working in perfect tandem, gestural paintings by Fran Dibble with small figurative panel inserts, provide the backdrop. Paul, an important NZ mid-career artist – who created, among many memorable works, the NZ Memorial in London – works out of his own foundry with a team of assistants.
