“Dibble at the Gow Langsford Gallery in Kitchner St.
…. In Opera and the Ukelele the tower is combined with the ukelele, a palm tree and a scroll. The result is a comic combination of classic and popular full of spirit … there is spirit too, in the large work called Patience of the Gardener where the gardener stands on his head on a box with his legs making a big bold sign. Opposite, a tree offers a contrast in textures.
There is also energy in The Fall where a dashing Indian rides bareback between two huge leaves. He holds a tomahawk in each hand and his loincloth flutters behind him rhyming exactly with the horse’s tail.
The witty inventiveness of this work continues in South Seas Festival where a nautilus shell broadcasts to a beer bottle beside an acrobatic sheep whose fleece is richly textured bronze.
Most inventive of all is the delightful Looking for the Straight and Narrow where a rhythmic tattooed jester counterpoints a plumbline that falls from his elevated toes alongside yet another Tower of Pisa.
It makes for a very enigmatic, quirky show…”
